1. Location Data & Interactive Map Filtering

When you visit Custard MKE, your browser may prompt you to share your location so we can sort frozen custard stands by distance from you, filter by mileage radius, and center the interactive map.

  • Processed Locally in Your Browser: Your GPS or browser coordinates are used strictly inside your own device's web browser to calculate distances to Milwaukee-area custard stands and filter locations within the visible map area.
  • Never Stored or Sold: We do not transmit, store, log, or sell your geographic coordinates on our servers.
  • Optional: You can decline or revoke location permissions at any time in your browser settings, and the site will continue to function using default Milwaukee center coordinates.

2. Email Flavor Alerts & Daily Digest Subscriptions

You may optionally subscribe to receive daily Flavor of the Day digests for your favorited stands and/or automatic schedule alerts when your favorite flavor keywords appear on the upcoming forecast.

  • What We Store When You Subscribe: If you enter your email address in the Flavor Alerts window, we store your email address alongside your selected favorite stand IDs, favorite flavor keywords, lookahead day preference, and a unique device/unsubscribe token on our server.
  • How We Use Your Email: Your email address is used exclusively to send the automated Custard MKE daily stand updates, upcoming flavor schedule alerts, and device verification codes you requested (sent from [email protected]). We never sell, rent, or share subscriber email addresses with third parties.
  • One-Click Unsubscribe: Every alert email includes a one-click Unsubscribe link at the bottom that immediately and permanently removes your email subscription from our server. You can also contact us at any time to request removal.

3. Browser Local Storage & Web Push Notifications

To provide a fast, personalized experience without requiring you to create a password-protected account:

  • Browser localStorage: Custard MKE saves your favorited custard stands (custardmke_fav_stands), favorite flavor keywords (custardmke_fav_flavors), and notification preferences (custardmke_notif_settings) locally in your browser's storage so your Favorites view and on-card schedule badges persist between visits. You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser site data.
  • Browser Notifications: If you click Enable Browser Alerts, your browser will ask for permission using the standard Web Notifications API. You can disable browser notifications at any time in your browser or device settings.

4. Sponsored Placements, Map Tiles & Third-Party Links

  • Sponsored Posts & Advertisements: Custard MKE features clearly labeled Sponsored / Featured Partner announcements and community support links. We may also use standard analytics or advertising services (such as Cloudflare or Google AdSense) that use cookies or standard web logs to measure aggregate site traffic.
  • Interactive Map Tiles: Our interactive map loads map imagery from CARTO and OpenStreetMap contributors, which receive standard web requests (such as your IP address and browser user-agent) necessary to render map tiles in your browser.
  • External Links: Clicking links to official custard stand websites, Google Maps directions, or Buy Me a Coffee will take you to external websites governed by their own respective privacy policies.

5. Contact Form Submissions

When you send us a message through our Contact page (for example, to suggest a custard stand, report a schedule correction, or inquire about a sponsored placement), we collect your name, email address, topic, and message content. This information is emailed to [email protected] and backed up on our server solely so we can review and reply to your inquiry. We never add contact form senders to marketing or alert lists without explicit opt-in.
